Today I want to focus on how you can brand and sell yourself in any situation. Yes, that's right, any situation. Whether you're an employee, a new hire, interviewing, or even asking someone out on a date, I want to give some tips on how to make yourself stand out and brand your own style, goals, and dreams to other people. It's important to brand yourself as a person and a worker, so people understand you as a person and your work ethic. Branding yourself isn't just for influencers or companies, but can also be for normal individuals like you and me. We can take advantage of the branding strategies marketers use to make yourself look more successful and stand out.
1. Define your "brand"
By "brand" I mean anything from the actual brand of product/company to even your style as a person. What are the values and beliefs of your company or you as a person? What do you stand for? If you're unsure, ask people around you how they see you using adjectives. This can help narrow in on a personal brand or style for yourself. If you're thinking about branding a company, think about the values you want your company to have.
2. Identify your strengths and weaknesses
What are you good at? What can you improve on? These questions can be applied to you as an individual or you as a company. Think about the strengths that separate you from others. What are some other strengths or skills you can easily acquire? Think about the aspects in your life or the company you want to improve on. Maybe you're too impatient with people or maybe your company's mission statement needs to be expanded on. Either way, work on these improvements and then work them into your "brand."
This can be your interviewer, a target market, or someone else. Knowing who you want to interact with, and the people who you want to see your "brand," is important in reframing your brand towards that audience. This is better specifically for companies for marketing, but I suppose can also work on a personal level.
4. Find your voice
Similar to finding strengths and weaknesses, this is finding what makes your unique from others and other companies. What tone of voice do you use to your clients? What tone of voice do you use with your friends? How do you come across? Take some time to do some analysis to find out
5. Design your look
How do you look visually? Do you have a specific style? Does your company have a specific theme? In branding, it's important to find a style or theme that projects you as a company or person and your values. This could be wardrobe, color scheme, logo, etc. It's important however to visually stand out as a "brand."
Take some time to do some soul-searching for either yourself or a company to find your own brand. It'll take some time and research, but the payoff is really worth it. You'll stand out as successful and unique and gain more positive attention. Make sure to be consistent in your style and choices for branding. This will help with your reputation.
There are of course many different ways to brand yourself or your company, but I hope these tips help get the ball rolling on your path to success!
Until next time,
Katie
